Scioto Mile Wanderlights Project Profile

Project Goal

This custom fabrication project was created for Columbus’s own bicentennial park. CityScapes was asked to create sculptural light elements featuring vibrant colors and dynamic light shows. We are honored to contribute to the Scioto Miles Wanderlights, a free holiday light experience presented by the city of Columbus. This installation features forty illuminated globes circling the Scioto Mile fountain. Known for its stunning summer light show, these illuminated globes keep the Scioto Mile Fountain beautiful year-round.

Our Process

Each globe begins with a white polycarbonate sphere. The interiors house full-spectrum programmable LED lighting wrapped around a stainless-steel cylinder. These lights deliver dynamic colors and customizable shows, making each visit to the fountain a unique experience. CityScapes worked with the client’s design goals to enclose each globe with a stainless-steel frame. The metal frames were shaped using a profile rolling machine and then welded together. Each snowflake was laser-cut using our fiber laser and welded to the top of the frame. Once the top and bottom halves of the frame were assembled, they were powder-coated silver for a long-lasting and weather-resistant finish. The polycarbonate globes and LED lighting cores were inserted into the frames, and the top and bottom halves were joined with fasteners.
